Student's Words

I received a birthday gift from my good friend, Mrs. Amy Chan, which is a very unique hand painted plate in 2002 and this is a piece of art that everybody admires. Miss Maggie Chan, who is my piano teacher and also a friend shows great interest in learning this skill. It is under her inspiration that we start the lesson together in the summer of 2002. I became very fond of these art lessons and am looking forward to each Saturday’s lesson. It is a very friendly atmosphere and one can be very relax. I also make some good friends there. I didn’t produce too much work, I did it by heart. There is always something new to learn and I enjoy painting very much.

Porcelain painting is a very comprehensive art form. You can create a stunning effect with just simple brush stokes. It’s amazing !

When I recognized porcelain painting the first time, I love it so much. It allows me to put all my designs and patterns on different shapes of porcelain. That is very special and interesting to have various effects by using different methods of painting.

                                                                                       Gloria Chan

I first became interested in art when I saw my daughter’s Chinese paintings. Although they were simple, I was intrigued by the fact that she only needed a few brushstrokes to complete a whole painting. When I started learning myself, I decided that I didn’t just want to confine myself to one type of painting. That was when I saw the article in the newspaper about Amy’s Porcelain Painting Workshop. At first, I thought she taught many types of painting, however, after my first lesson, I learned that it was only painting on porcelain and Bone China. It was only when I received my first piece of complete work that I found I was very interested in this type of painting and now, I am constantly trying to improve my painting!

I got the chance to know porcelain painting by occasion from magazines which introduce elegant porcelain painted items and also their use as decorative items at home. While learning porcelain painting, I find each item new to me and each item can have different changes. I especially feel the beauty when painting flower items. Beautiful finished items bring joy of success to me and great satisfaction can be achieved when I see my own finished items displaying as decoration at home.

Porcelain painting as an art form allows immense creativity and possibilities. With the wide variety of porcelain, tools, paints and mediums, it is amazing how much one can do to a piece of white baked clay! The creation of an artwork could sometimes be gruelling, but the result is paint well worth.

I feel porcelain painting is interesting. I choose the word interesting because I couldn’t believe that I could draw things onto a plate, tiles and all shapes of porcelain figure and make it colourful and use it afterwards. It is really very interesting ……………and fun.

I was impressed when I saw the tiny smiling faces on a tile, they were so lovely……. The Porcelain Painting Workshop is also such a lovely place for me to relax and enjoy.

Porcelain painting is an attainable art, a source of joy, an experience of quiet contentment……….

Through painting on porcelain I have learnt to be patient, to be gentle, to be appreciative………..

For whatever humble progress I may have made, I am most thankful to my talented teacher Amy for her meticulous guidance and my beautiful niece Louisa for making known to me this world of wonders..

I am very pleased to have the chance to learn porcelain painting. It is artistic, interesting and challenging. Painting on porcelain is a slow process, this requires patience but the result is most rewarding. Our unique and beautiful projects are also the warmest presents to family and friends.

                                      Rostina Chan

I never think that I could learn porcelain painting. It seems to be something unreachable. It looks like simple but a lot to learn. The more you learn, the more you will like it. During the process, I could find satisfaction and achievement. It also helps me to rebuild my confident.

                                      Sandia Leung

It’s been a pleasure to be part of Amy’s porcelain painting family. Porcelain painting is itself a beautiful art, it brings along polished fun to our daily lives. To me, it used to be just a painting hanging on the wall. Indeed, it can also be a distinct gift for our beloved, a lovely tea cup for a cozy afternoon, or even a chic tile in the bathroom. Amazingly, anything can be a piece of painted porcelain – your own piece of fine art !

                                       Sharon Lee

Painting on porcelain has been a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. Every project done is highly satisfying and fulfilling. Each piece is unique in its own way and beautiful – a never ending learning process. After all learning from a talented teacher does make all the difference to the art.

                                Simran Chugani

Doing porcelain painting has enabled me to learn the beauty of art and painting, and allowed me to open my eyes to a broader horizon. It has trained my patience and my hands. I’ve now not only made more friends who share the same interest, but also being enlightened in many more areas in life by sharing interesting views and conversations with fellow painters. Happy Painting !

Porcelain painting inspires me to be creative due to different shapes and sizes of the product. The painting needs to bring out the unique characteristics of the porcelain and make both the painting and the product look outstanding. A blend of colours and designs on pure white porcelain is quite challenging and I find each painting worth admiring, time and time again.

                                      Vinita Mehta

Porcelain painting, a special art that nurtures your patience, observation, creativity, attentiveness and imagination.

                                         Winnie Ying

I discovered porcelain painting by chance. When I went to bazaar in the Conrad Hotel more than two years ago, I was amazed with the porcelain painting that Amy exhibited and then I decided to learn and have enjoyed it immensely ever since. Especially if I can use my porcelain painting practically in everyday life.
